Dead Switch

While waiting for all of my files to copy from the old iMac to the new Mac Studio (copying 1.5TB worth of files takes a LONG time… rsync --progress is your friend to get a sense of where you are in the process. 1.39 millions files…) I had time to think about backing up the new computer. Since the iMac is my primary source of truth for things like important documents and photos I’ve followed the 3 2 1 rule of backups.

New Year New Computer

Welcome to 2023… Time for a new computer. Now, I know what you’re saying - there are two kinds of computer users. Those whose computers have crashed and those whose computers will crash. Thankfully, nothing wrong with the old one. It’s a 2016 27-inch iMac and I’m not able to upgrade from macOS Monterey to macOS Ventura. Seven+ years in and it’s time to look at replacing it. That and i noticed that the 2TB hard drive is about 75-80% full.
